The Meantime Brewing Company has ethical policies that commit it to the following:-
FOOD MILES
Whenever possible Meantime will source raw materials and other inputs from local supplies in order to minimize the food miles associated with the company’s products. In particular Meantime has a policy of using Kentish hops and East Anglian malt wherever possible.
RECYCLING
Meantime seeks to recycle as much of the by-products and waste products of its operations as possible. The following systems are in place for the following waste streams.
Spent Grain – Sent to farm for animal feed
Spent Hops - Sent to farm for animal feed
Cardboard – Compacted and recycled
Plastic – Compacted and recycled
Glass – Sorted and recycled
Paper – Office recycling scheme operated
Printer Cartridges – Office recycling scheme operated.
FAIRTRADE
MBC supports the aims of Fair-trade and uses Fair-trade products wherever possible. Meantime Coffee Beer was the UK’s first Fair-trade beer.
ORGANICS
Meantime has withdrawn from organic production, believing it to be environmentally subordinate to the issue of FOOD MILES. We have decided that we would prefer to source non-organic materials locally than organic materials from further afield.
VEGETARIAN & VEGAN
All Meantime's bottled and kegged beers are suitable for vegetarians and vegans as no animal based filtration or finings aids are employed. Meantime's cask beers are fined with isinglass finings, which are a fish based product, and therefore may not be suitable for vegans and some vegetarians.
These polies are under constant review.
